Project Documentation & Vision

Documenting the restoration of Delhi’s historic Civil Lines Police Station—the city’s first police station which crossed its monumental 100-year legacy in 2013—was an extraordinary exercise in heritage preservation meeting modern urban revitalization. Designated under the Heritage Building category, this landmark project was masterfully conceptualized and executed by multidisciplinary architects Yashica Mangla and Kapil Mangla, founders of Earth Worth Design Lab.

The assignment captured a remarkable architectural transformation that turned a neglected, centuries-old space into a nationally recognized asset, ultimately earning it the prestigious Best Police Station Award in 2023. The overarching vision was to respect the deep historical essence of the structure while radically upgrading its functional utility, turning a space once choked with scrap and sealed shops into a vibrant, modern campus for law enforcement and community interaction.

The Orange Images Photography USP & Execution Strategy (Full-Day Temporal Transition)

True to our Master Project SOP and our signature detail-oriented execution, the documentation of this monumental heritage project required an intensive, full-day commitment from 10:00 AM until late night at 8:00 PM.

Our execution strategy was designed to systematically capture every structural change, spatial upgrade, and before-and-after transformation across four distinct lighting profiles:

Broad Daylight Execution (10:00 AM Onwards – Detail & Transformation Capture): We began in full daylight to capture the crisp architectural details of the freshly painted heritage facade, structural repairs, and exterior landscaping. This phase focused heavily on documenting the before-and-after narrative—showcasing how a ground previously piled high with scrap, old tires, coolers, and rusted seized bikes was converted into clean, expansive green areas, a dedicated children’s crèche, and a structured playground featuring an open gym, a badminton court, and a barefoot walking area.
Golden Hour Illumination (Late Afternoon Warmth): As the sun dipped, we utilized golden hour lighting to cast a rich, warm glow across the newly beautified public seating spaces, exterior plantations, and restored brickwork, highlighting the welcoming and humane approach brought to a police infrastructure project.
Blue Hour & Twilight Twilight Blending (Facade Drama): Transitioning into dusk, we balanced the warm interior lighting of the newly activated spaces against the cool blue twilight sky. This window was critical for capturing the transformed facade and emphasizing the conversion of six previously sealed shops—once used to store seized illegal substances—into a sleek, fully running kitchen and cafeteria for the police force.
Night Photography (Illuminated Heritage Context): Continuing past dark until 8:00 PM, our night shots highlighted the professional architectural lighting design integrated by Earth Worth Design Lab. This showcased how the heritage structure stands out safely, brightly, and proudly in the nightscape of Civil Lines, Delhi.

Comparative Before-and-After Visual Storytelling: Framing angles that juxtapose the historical weight of a century-old building with modern, high-functioning amenities like the open gym, sports court, and staff cafeteria.
Comprehensive Day-to-Night Pacing: Utilizing the entire 10-hour spectrum from bright morning/daylight to deep night illumination to document both civic functionality and architectural pride.
Humanizing Civic Infrastructure: Highlighting specialized spaces like the children’s crèche and lush landscaping to prove how thoughtful architectural design can completely shift the energy and public perception of a government institution.
